Birmingham Festival Theatre (BFT)

BFT is the longest running black box theare in the state of Alabama. Located in Birmingham’s historic 5 Points South district, the theatre first opened in its current location in 1973. It has been a stallwart supporter of boundary-pushing, counter-cultural, and experimental theatre since its founding. It’s founding members and alumni have gone on to found other theatres (including Carl Stewart’s Terrific New Theatre), teach at the Alabama School of Fine Arts, and serve on the Jefferson County Board of Education, and work in Birmingham Children’s Theatre.

BFT was joined on the Laughing Impact Project as host venue for the initial run of our Sunday Service program: a weekly “casting out” of the week’s bad news, that incorporated initiatie pitching, discussion, and promotion of the good happening in the community, within the framework of its tent revial lampooning.
